Hi, I’m Jake!
I’m passionate about helping people design careers that give them more meaning.
A Career in Design
I started my career over 15 years ago as a Design Engineer, progressing into engineering leadership and project management positions within leading global engineering businesses, so design has always been a part of my thinking.
My philosophy around my career changed when I became a father.
I no longer wanted to chase promotions just for the title and salary.
I wanted more meaning and flexibility for my family.
Finding Themes
The common theme throughout my professional career and personal life is my passion for the personal development of myself and my team.
Once I understood this, I spent some time working out how I could bring more of that into my life, especially my career.
I also began to put less emphasis on my success and more on the people around me.
That’s how I arrived at being a professional coach.
Career Experiments
Through low-risk career experiments, I was able to train as a coach and obtain my Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
I also offered to become an internal coach within my company, which gave me the experience and the fulfilment that I was looking for.
This expanded into me creating my own coaching practice in addition to my career.
Giving me more opportunities to help people and build meaning.
A bit more about me
Outside of coaching, I’m a husband and father who loves everything about health, fitness and being outside.
I practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), meditate daily and love speciality coffee.
I also fully believe that we should embrace the things that bring us joy, no matter how embarrassing they may seem; They offer clues to our fulfilment.
My non-coaching credentials include a BEng in Mechanical Engineering, MSc in Marine Technology, and I’m a Chartered Engineer.
I also enjoy writing on LinkedIn and Substack about Coaching and personal development.
